The machine does have a computer connection at the back but it dates from the days when computers ran on a shovelful of coal and some whale oil.Īny advice will be greatly appreciated but of course will be expected for free - remember that I am a cheapskate and am also having a recession. All sounds are MIDI controllable allowing for players to access vintage style sounds with much more user friendly controls.

What I was wondering was what would happen when the battery wears out - will the synth simply lose user data or will the whole thing die and have to be reprogrammed with all of its sounds and so on? The CS1x synthesizer was of the first analog emulation digital synthesizers, based on the sounds of the previous CS series models. The synth is now nearly 14 years old and to the best of my knowledge has never had a replacement battery. The keyboard works fine (I use it in my little home studio) but I have misgivings with regard to replacing its internal battery. Because of my constant and all-encompassing meanness I purchased a Yamaha CS1x synth from a gentleman in the street some time ago at a bargain price. Being a bouzouki player and a folk musician I am therefore a cheapskate.

I was wondering if somebody familiar with the workings of electrical keyboards could be of assistance with regard to my old synth. Only downside to the CS1x was the multi-timbral limitation: MIDIs could have one huge XG channel, but all the other channels were very average General MIDI. If you want multiple midi tracks you are stuck with primarily the XG sounds if correct. Synlead, Synthbrass, Synthbass, Basslines, Sequencer-Sounds, Polysynths. There are hundreds of sounds at the origin (close to 900) and 21 drum kits. If you search for 'XG' MIDI files and dig deep into what the best of them did to set up a sound, you will be amazed. The Yamaha CS1x is pretty much a one shot synth meaning that you will need to either incorporate one sound into your setup or simply record it to audio tracks for multiple sounds. Hello, good evening and felicitations to all and sundry. There's a programming book for the CS1x's XG sounds somewhere out there.
